Women’s Empowerment, a life changing experience

Boudoir

The first women’s empowerment event that I hosted turned out even better than I could have imagined. What started from a video I saw on YouTube two years ago actually came to light in my studio in Aberdeen.

You can view the video that I watched here. A woman stood blindfolded in the middle of a street wearing only a black bikini. She had a sign that asked strangers to draw a heart on her body if they had struggled with self love and acceptance. She was worried that she would be criticized or people would write mean things on her. But she was pleasantly surprised. Not only did she have hearts all over her body but other people wrote words of encouragement, hugged her, and told her how remarkable she was for doing this. It was truly a beautiful experiment of self love.

So I decided to take this a bit further at my women’s empowerment event. I had ladies sign up for the spot if they wanted to participate. Once every arrived I had everyone fill out forms answering the question of why they wanted to participate in something like this. You can view their answers below but they were beautiful. They truly believe in the empowerment for other women and not just for themselves. Then they were all given a body pen and were asked to write words on the other lady’s bodies. Not just any words though. They were supposed to write words that they felt when they looked at each woman. We then photographed each woman with the words written all over her so she would have these images to look back on when she was perhaps feeling not so good about herself. At least she would be able to remember that 8 other complete strangers thought she was confident, beautiful, bold, full of heart, charismatic, and divine. And on top of all of that we raised $137.00 that went directly to Beyond Survival. If you don’t know, Beyond Survival is a sexual assault resource center. Their mission is to support, educate, and empower anyone impacted by sexual abuse. We are hoping to raise so much more at this next event so we would love for you to be a part of it!

What a beautiful memory to have! Our next event will be held on June 4th at my studio in Aberdeen. You can view all of the details and book your spot here.

Now take a look at all of these beautiful, strong, courageous ladies!

Kristin says “I love the idea of women supporting each other and bringing more positive recognition to each other. We are all so hard on ourselves in our minds but being reminded how others see us as we move in the world is so powerful.”

Kimberly wanted to do this women’s empowerment event because “I used to be a “women are catty and drama, I prefer male friends.” As i grew older that statement has drastically changed. I live to empower others, especially women in this man’s world. We deserve to walk around confident and determined and I will make sure women know that. I know how I feel when I’m not confident and feel unpowerful. I don’t want others to feel that way.”

Cassidy shared “I wanted to do this shoot today to help show other women how freaking awesome they are. You can’t always see it when you look at yourself and having others tell you what wonderful qualities they see in you can be an incredible and eye opening experience.”

Mckayla wanted to do this empowerment event because “I wanted to do it to show others being 40 isn’t bad and to remind others that there is more to someone then what they see. We all have a story.”

Amanda shared that she wanted to do this event “To celebrate each other and lift each other up in a positive, empowering way.”

Michelle says “I’m using this photoshoot to work on healing myself and rediscovering the amazing person I am. I accept who I am physically, I love who I’m becoming, and look forward to meet who I am going to become.”

Jamie says “I want the opportunity to not only build my confidence by seeing what other people see when they look at me, but be able to share what I see in them as well.”

And then these awesome babes grabbed my camera and wrote on me! Here’s the photo they took.

Imagine, you walk into my studio (located in Aberdeen, Wa) completely freaked out.  I mean, even though we've been talking and I've been preparing you this isn't something you've ever done before!
So you sit down in my stylist's chair as she starts to go over hair and makeup looks with you.  As she begins you start to feel at ease.  We decide which outfit you're going to start with and start posing!  The music is playing and soon the camera falls away, you're just feeling it!  I show you a few shots on the back of my camera and you're floored!  That's me?!  But you say it in a way as if that confidence has always been there, we just needed to pull it out of you.
That is why I do what I do!  To watch you transform from unsure into the powerful, amazing, confident woman that you are!  You just needed a little boost.  And I'm here to give that to you.
